W.S. Francis 1963. 140. Journal. Dec. 6. Hastings Reservation, Monterey County. useless, quail formerly in this area having moved out with the fall rains I expect. Yesterday I re- located one of these on the road from the Bell house to the barn, near the thicket sometimes used as cover. Today I returned the other trap to the barn. During the day I serviced the traps at irregular intervals. Quail not much in evidence until evening. Dec. 7. Hastings Reservation, Monterey County. Unset all traps; relocated the one in front of the White house to Quail Hollow; and removed and packed up the new trap I had brought down. Left the Reservation at 0920, mileage 48335, and arrived in Berkeley at 1309, mileage 48535. Total trip mileage 312. Dec. 9. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 0825 serviced weather instruments in the Belvoir lab. Pen scattered one can of grain + prepared 3 areas outside of the pen for future trapping.
