W.J. Francis 1963. 132. Journal Nov. 15, Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 1015. Serviced rain gage & checked birds in Behavin lab. pen. As I was leaving a severe thunderstorm with hail began, about 1030, and continued so I returned along Grizzly Peak Blvd. Hailstones reached a size of 1/4 inch diameter + nearly covered the streets. Nov. 16, Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 1015 Serviced rain gage & placed new 2'x4' trap of 1"x2" wire mesh in area D-4. Baited the vicinity with 1/2 can of grain, left trap sunset. Nov. 18, Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 0815. At Behavin Lab. pen. Weather clear, good visibility, light wind without turbulence. Set and baited the new trap in D-4, and serviced weather instruments. Beginning 0847 observed penned birds from the hunt until 0920, when I left to reconnoitre the surrounding area for wild coveys. I returned at 1010. Observed until 1035, then unset the trap, added another 1/2 can of grain, & left the pen.
