W.J. Francis 1963. 124. Journal Oct. 21. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. Both vegetation & ground surface wet with dew (and past rains). Serviced weather instruments and trap; left the trap set. Filled the water hole. 1730. Serviced trap again - scattered a can of grain in the center of the pen. Oct. 22. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 1100 Brought a new sack of Hen Chow (25 lbs) to the Behavior lab. pen. One bird in the trap, escaped as I ap- proached - the trap was somewhat out of shape, probably due to escape attempts of a number of birds. I adjusted the trap, relaited with 1/2 can grain, & spread another 1/2 can in the center of the pen. Weather: 8/10 CU, fair visibility, very light wind with no turbulence. Observed perched birds till 1205, when weather was 4/10 CU, moderate wind with moderate turbulence. Left trap unset.
