W.J. Frances 1963 112. Journal Sept. 13. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. and dew last night and this morning. Checked trap outside pen, and began observations from the tent. Wind light, with slight turbulence. Left pen at 1140. At 14:00 rebuilt trap below the population pits, in a cleared area adjacent to Baccharis patch, after dismantling the set-up near the pen. Pre-baited it and left unset. Sept. 15 - Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. at the Behavin Lab pen at 1400. Weather: OVC thin AS moderate wind with slight turbulence. Observed penned quail for 20 minutes, then replenished food: 3/4 can each of hen-chow and pigeon grains, in two pans. Re- filled water hole and cut a few weeds in the center clearing. The walk-in trap set up Friday showed no signs of having been visited; I added more bait in the vicinity & blocked the exit to set the trap. Left the Behavin Lab at 1440.
