W.J. Francis 1963 106. Journal. Aug. 29. McMillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo Co. with Jan McMillan alone Marian Spring. Then another tour at 1845 over the ranch area close by. Collected 4 birds in the two trips. Aug. 30. McMillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo Co. 0810 at Marian Spring blind. Weather overcast with breaks, CU and SC at 5000'. Light wind and rather cool. A dozen or more Brown Towhees, a pair of Scrub Jays, a few young Meadowlarks and Mourning Doves are using the water. A pair of Lark Sparrows and a ? humming- bird also noted, not seen to drink. 0915. Wind increased to moderate from the southwest; noted mammoth- formation in clouds to west, with blue sky visible beyond them. at 0938 watch time, noted that watch had stopped - at least ? ten minutes had elapsed. Rewound, did not reset at this time. 0950. Sky cover now 7/10 as heavy cloud banks moved past to the east. 1000 sky cover 5/10, cloud cover clearing the sun to give full bright sunshine in this area. Ended observation at 1005. (Watch correction + 8 minutes by later check.
