W. J. Francois 1963. 95. Journal. Aug. 8. Berkeley, Alameda County. sprinkles of rain noted in the past hour. Very light wind, horizontal visibility 5 miles. Light rain con- tinued intermittently until evening. Aug. 9. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 0920 at Behavior lab pen. weather variable sky cover 4 to 9 tenths of AC, light wind with slight turbulence. Filled water hole and spread a can of pigeon grains plus a can of hen chow. Checked instruments operation and rain gage (.08"). For the first time in nearly two months, there are no small birds in the pen - juncos, finches, goldfinches, song sparrows, and one Red-breasted Nuthatch have been noted inside in the past - apparently attracted by the water hole. Yesterday's light rain may have provided water out- side the pen temporarily. 1043 Discontinued Observations. Aug. 10. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 1920 at Behavior lab pen. Weather clear, calm, and unusually warm. Entire pen and enclosing fence in shadow some sunshine on surrounding trees. To 2023.
