July 25, HLNR, Monterey County. and covered a total road distance of 9.5 miles besides 15 minutes at the artesian well (#1) and a few minutes observing the guzzler (#3) at a distance. 1400. Left HLNR for Hastings Reservation arriving there about 1600. (Mileage 43295 - 43361). From about 1800 to 2030, walked about the headquarters area, as far as the pump and up to the head of Quail Hollow, looking for signs of quail. July 26. Hastings Reservation, Monterey County, Calif. 0640 to 0740 tour of head quarter area, pump, Quail Hollow, and dusty hillside - no secrets. 0915 Re-fastened probe of Forbes at grass level to avoid direct ray of low sun. Previous extremes in morning and afternoon have been affected this way, and allowance must be made, 0940 to 1220, walked down to en- trance gate, up the Greenfield road half a mile then down the creek bed and returned, looking for signs of quail watering.
