W. J. Francis 1963 Journal. July 20. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. for ASA 160 (Plus-X Pan Kodak Film), by Argus meter: f.13 at '/100 sec. 1245 B.t.W. photo #19 at the above expose, looking into center of the sun; through opened window Weather clear, light to moderate wind with moderate turbulence. 1313. Examined image of eclipse as projected by binoculars: over- lap estimated at 1/5 the sun's diameter, which would reduce the light by less than 4 %. 1323 Light meter reading (same conditions) about f 11.5 at '/100 sec. +326 1333. Shadow an eclipse image cuts off about 1/4 of the sun's circumference. 1344. Little apparent change in eclipse image; about 1/4 of circumference of sun cut off by shadow, a little less than 1/3 its diameter, with the curvature of the moon's shadow definitely greater than the curvature of the sun's disc. Light reduction on this basis would be less than 10% maximum. 1347: with eclipse at its maximum pole photo #20, some settings as
