W.J. Francis 1963. 72. Journal June 23. McMillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo County. Observed from the blind starting 0700. The water situation is poor since the trough has not yet filled since cattle last watered and there is no overflow; only a very few spots where there is water in deep cattle hoofprints. 0723 Rapidly spreading stratus has produced an overcast except for a line of blue sky to the east, and sun is now obscured. 0740 The overcast is now complete, no blue sky, nor any lightness to indicate the sun's position. 0812 The stratus began to show breaks with the sun's disk visible. At 0840, just after leaving the blind, the stratus broke into scattered patches, and bright sun covered the area, with the wind a little lighter than carlier. Broke camp, completing at 1025. (Mileage 41525) Paso Robles - lunch and tire repair. Left at 1335, mileage 41559. Reached Hastings Reservation about 1600, mileage 41654. June 23. Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monterey County. Observing
