W.J. Francis 1963 70. Journal June 22. McMillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo County. 1544 Wind increased to moderate or strong since mid- morning. I took station at the window in the ranch house to check birds coming to water there. Following species observed: Brewer's Blackbird, California Quail, Bullock Oriole, Brown-headed Cowbird, English Sparrow, Lark Sparrow House Finch, Green-backed Goldfinch, Eared Dowitcher at 1736. I returned to the ranch home and observed birds going to roost 2000 to 2045. The wind was quite strong the late afternoon and evening but died down somewhat after sunset. With the sun gone the weather is decidedly cool for June (min. temp. reading Thursday was 48° and it has not warmed up.) The electric lantern battery is about dead - Kerrene lantern is working fine but needs filling before another trip. On my return to camp a
