W. J. Francis 1962 Journal Nov. 10. Drove to Hasting Reservation to discuss Quail project with John Davis. Traps are available with banding records back to 1939 and field notes of various observers. Continued to McMillan ranch in San Luis Obispo County. Discussed quail & conservation problems in general. Took notes (see following pages) on localities in his hunting record, and summarized notes on numbers, sex & age of birds tagged 1946-1961. (ff.). Detailed data are available on number, age and sex of birds tagged on each hunting date, and the specific locality. Nov. 11. McMillan ranch San Luis Obispo County. Walked over the area of a quail covery in Portuguese Canyon - Pole-line ridge-Marion Spring area, sighted estimated 200 quail centered on grassy plot surrounded by brush on north-facing slope. McMillan killed two quail (both fem. female. We drove around the ranch, flushing 100 or so birds in the "Willows" area, and seeing a number near the Old House.
