W.J. Francis 1963. 60. Journal. May 25. Devil's Den, Kern County came out of the canyon west of grail canyon. ST appeared to be increasing to west at 0700. Returned to McMillan Ranch via Shandan, arriving 0830, mileage 39,272 May 25. McMillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo Co. Observing near Marion Spring 1400 to 1220 and at old granary 1430 to 1600. Weather clearing to scld CO, fresh wind est. at 15 knots, moderate turbulence gusts after suffling ground vegetation strongly. Tole movies (1-7 feet) at old granny from car. 1735 to 1845 observing a ridge overlooking Marion Spring. May 26. McMillan Ranch, San Luis Obispo Co. I spent the night in the station's wagon on the ridge overlooking Marion Spring. In the early morning ST closed enveloped the hill, but by 0630 when I first heard grail calls, clouds had lifted to about 300 feet above this level, although still covering taller surrounding hills. Psychon check on the ground 57.5° - 50° - 91% humidity, at 0725.
