W.J. Francis 1963 42. Journal May 9. Mt. Millan Ranch, San Luis Obispo Co. 0700 Weather overcast with ST after rain most of the night, Raininge 0.28". Moderate down-canyon (east) wind. Psychron 48.5 47.0, 90%. 1000 Left Ranch for Carmel Valley. 1037 Pass Robles gas stop (38,325). Visited Mr. Fred Coole from 11 to 12, then proceeded via Jolon and Hunting Liggett Military Reservation, Greenfield, Arroyo Seco Road, to Hastings Reservation at 15-45' (38,456) 1615 Checked instruments. From 1900 to 1940 observed quail and possible watering points. Growth of vegetation is so lush that a bird would have difficulty getting to water near the pump, and water is available all along the usually dry stream (result of .15" rain last night plus generally high rainfall the last 2 months). May 10. Hastings Reservation, Monterey County. Weather nearly clear at 0600, with SC increasing rapidly; a dark band moving over the area about 0700, and overcast by 0830. Vegetation very wet with dew, no noticeable wind. Looked for quail around house and
