and returned at 6:15 P.M.
Tries to find Back to get vehicle
for evening. No luck, so put up
buffie and eider, then wrote notes.
Suggested to Schindler today
that we send H.S. directly from
the train to Wainwright. Can't
see another two week effort to get
him in the field.
1 August
Barrow, Alaska
Upairs into the field early. Moves
all of Stevens traps to other plots, then
took jeep out towards gasoline ridge.
Can't get as close as a weasel, but
much easier, and no worry about
tracks. Walker Ridge area East.
Red-backs and Plaques in groups
very much in evidence, plus scattered
pecterals. No sign of Jaeger pair #1.
took camera - Q.D. thing screwed up
again. Also broke cable release and
stopwatch. Good Day. Returned to
Wainwright at 2:00, and ate sack lunch.
By then weather had turned from
bright and sunny to foggy and 36°.
Great. Helped Stevens set traps, her
