our to Jaap Kaalf's Ponos with
Jaap, Gary, and Mr. Photographer.
Spent the morning nature-faking.
First Jaap prefers to be sampling his
pond, then stood impatiently by as
Pitelka Project assistants staged
shots of lemming in runway and
great lemming chase. Don't tell
anyone, but we used a lab animal
captured yesterday.
Got deck barely in time for
lunch. Mr. National Geographics asked to
go out at 3:00, so I stayed in and wrote
notes waiting......and waiting......and... About
4:30 I began to suspect. All was not in vain,
as an Eskimo came in with two yellow-
billed loons. Rich and I has left were at
the duck camp, never really believing...
Hear about a plane leaving
tomorrow for S.W. Alaska to pick
up 2 some bear cubs for Folk
project. Went down and talked to May
(40 min about sex, 2 min. about plan)
and left without knowing much more
than I knew going in. Returned-
weather still miserable, so put up
long-tails Jaeger, P sizer, Han
packed some gear, just in case.
