Barrow
Maelean
1966
29 August College to Barrow, Alaska
Spent the morning in West's
lab grinding birds and beginning
fat extraction. West's assistant,
a real nice Chinese girl named
Martha Meng, helped and
agreed to weigh the final product
so that I could leave today.
Visited with Dr. Brina Kessel, then
went through the U. of A. skin
collection (not too impressive) and
public museum (more impressive -
very interesting).
Finished up at the Lab, then
catched a ride to the airport
and caught the F-27 back to
Barrow. Flew above the clouds
all the way - didn't see a thing.
Landed just after 8:00 P.M., Barrow
was cold and windy, with snow
on the ground. Found one of my
bags missing.
Went into A.R.L. to stow gear
and clean up, then drove into Barrow
village and spent the rest of the
evening there.
