MacLean 1966 birds were feeding along the gravel of the river, a smaller number along the ocean, spinning. Shot 3 birds - all full of marine organisms - mostly a small shrimp-like beast. After disturbance all went to ocean and stayed there. Continued to Uoth Area - found fog there and negligible bird activity. Spoke with Max Brewer today, and found myself appointed speaker for Friday night's seminar. Spent the evening re-reading Holmes' and Pitelka's papers and organizing thoughts for that. 9 August Barrow, Alaska Checked stomachs on three immature birds (pectoralis) collected 6 August, then read until lunch. After- checked Pitfalls - 1 Carebia, 1 Staphylinus - then went out to change tanglefoots. Found them way, way down - nearly bare. Bird activity was similarly poor - a flock of 7 golden plovers, 3 pectoralis by Tanglefoot I, and occasional Red-backs. Weather was again wet and cold, this may relate both to insects and birds.
