Returned to camp for breakfast, then went back to lab and removed stomachs of this evening's shorebird collection, and finally rolled into the rack. 28 July Barrow, Alaska First check of pit-fall traps produced 3 carabids and 1 staphylinid- there is hope. It is time to start thinking about samples of Chironomus and Tipulidae larvae, too. Most of the afternoon was spent on yesterday's stomachs plus two trapline juveniles found in the icebox. The stomachs reflect the Diptera crash. After checking the Drum area pit-falls went out to Beach Ridge to see if I could find any there. Searched through Bohnsack's forest of stakes without finding any. Spent an hour watching a pair of Baird's Snippets. Twice got good distraction displays around one spot, but found nothing there and birds refused to go back while I watched. Definitely two birds together.
