Maclan
1966
around 25 animals. 3 of the hunters
flew back to Barrow, leaving a lot
of wounded and unskinned animals.
Burned us up. Spent the day skinning
and hauling meat and knocking off
cripples to keep them from going to
waste. Had a heck of a time with one
bull in a lake - always on the far
tside of the lake. Finally waded
(chin high!) across to get him ... and,
the gun misfired. Got him eventually
on our last shell. Turned out to
be the best (fattest) animal of
the whole lot.
Saw small flocks of semi-pals
in wet tussocky marsh. Seemed some
non-breeders; I don't know about
Paul's report of feeding flocks of
breeding birds. Saw non-flying
juvenile pheasants on two occasions in
same wet tussock-cdrex marsh.
An ARL plane with Cliff Alberfer
and Bob Lewellyn flew over in
the morning and dropped a note saying
they might return in the evening;
they didn't.
Not much else - dinner of caribou
steaks, dishes, and the rack.
