Marble 1966 Helsinki, and things seem to be going very well for their project. Went out with them to measure plants for growth increment and look for insects. Saw lots of mosquitoes - not too much else. the skeeters, while not nearly as bad as Paul described, are certainly the dominant arthropods. Wonder how much they are utilized for food. Stomachs will soon reveal this. Niko and Tom came up from North of the village - ecstatic about the place. Tom stayed to squash plants while Niko and I walked toward Parasitic Jaeger nest, stopping to look for bird food periodically. Aside from mosquitoes, there's not too much. Saw zero tipulids. Jaegers were still there, reacting as before. Could not find young in deep grass, although we localized them using intensity of reaction of adults. Walked back via Paul's census plot. A pair of black bellied plovers- very alarmed, were conspicuous in the center of it. Near camp a pair of golosh plovers acted similarly. Not much else except wagtails and white-crows.
