Barrow, Alaska to Meade River, Alaska
Got up feeling just a little foolish!
Cleaned up around lab, put away
insects, etc., then took camera out to
Steller's Eider nest. As feared, she
had hatched out and was not to
be seen. Spent the rest of the
morning turning over barrels and boards
in the drum area in search of carabios.
I must lack the technique, because I
turned a lot of drums for 10 loose
carabios. Also found some Staphylinias
and 2 Tipula larvae.
Returned for lunch, then spoke
to Dr. Brewer and was given notice for
an afternoon flight to the Meade.
This left the tanglefoots for Paul - but
I'm supposed to be back for the next
change. Threw my gear together and
headed for the airport. Flew down with
Guy Shepard in 46 Z. Barrow was
clear and foggy, and this held
until just North of the Meade. There
it was broken sky.
Stowed my gear and had a cup
of coffee with Art McKee and Roger
Burnard. They are helping the fort while
Phil Johnson is away at meetings in
