MacLean 1966 Continued on through Drum area without finding any birds until trapline X. Here there were too many birds to be absolutely sure. Collected 2 adults believed associating with the same clutch of young - 1 ♂ + 1 ♀. Took my eye off the juveniles to watch adults and could not relocate juveniles, damnit. Walked back through Drum area to return and found adult w/ 3 young on W. side of gas line. Collected it - a ♂. Stomachs of juvenile bird's analyzed today contained crane fly eggs w/ no trace of adults. I'm more than sure the eggs were taken after they were oviposited by the ♀ tipulid. One stomach contained orange eggs - Prionocera ? If the above is true, this follows. this evening they threw a good movie at W. Cat Ballou. After this went out to traplines II A-B with Tom. Walked South while Tom ser the lines. Redbacks were frequent along Voth Creek - all giving the alarm. I suspect the young were in the tall, lush grass of the creek. Also saw a flock of at least 2 adults. ♂ phalaropes were flying actively
