our what is happening in Bairdii. Spent
the afternoon at a 3-hour nest watch
and saw nothing - no nest reliefs or
other birds consistently in area. Shot
2 birds off nests - 1♂, 1♀. Humm....
so far, resembles Terninki.
After Dinner Drove out to area of
Lewellyn's wier. Dropped tom at lines
III + VIII on the way. Nest West of wier
(#) was empty. Searched entire area
for at least 1/4 mi. radius - found only 1
cleuth of red phalaropes and evidence of
turnstones - no birds. Returned to nest
and found 1 adult persistently by nest
cup. Watched it >1/2 hr. - nothing.
Walked with tom, who had joined
us, towards Elson lagoon while Nika
continued watch of nest East of wier.
Weather getting cold, with a good West wind.
Not much activity. As usual, birds seen
were too concerned over our presence
to feed. Found baird nest #
again - bird still sitting. Left it
unmisturbed and returned to the wier.
Nika had seen no nest relief, etc., on his
nest so we shot the bird - a ♂ - then
drove in.
