Maclean 1966 now quite wet in the troughs. Tipula were common, but the other crane flies were rare. Most & tipulae were ovipositing. Eggs, once deposited, were not externally evident. Despite food source birds were not much in evidence here. At dinner at Algiers. Bought a ♂ Spectacled Eider from Maxie. After dinner saw Charlie off at the airport, then went to "Miss Barrow" contest and dance. 16 July Barrow, Alaska Rain fell all night and most of the morning, adding still more water to the soggy tundra. Slept through breakfast, then struggled through tanglefoot strips. Over 1,000 small adult Diptera on several strips. After lunch went out to drum area with Nika and placed do bird carcasses to attract Cardinals for caloric determinations. Spent the rest of the afternoon on bird stomachs. Traplines are doing well at producing birds this year - hope they keep it up. In the evening went out to traplines I + II with Tom, while he
