Mackean 1966 be a very bad year for this. there are many marauding parasitic jagers in the area, hunting constantly. After more discussion and packing Pitelka left for a pre-departure cocktail party at Brewer's that must have been a gem! After dinner Niko stayed into write notes while I drove out to traplines II + VI with Tom. Rain which began about 7:30 refused to let up - large, annoying rain drops. Looked for feeding activity in the vicinity of the traplines with little success, then checked pectorals in central marsh and came in. Forgot to mention - yesterday flying insects first became conspicuous on the tundra, and they continued today even in poor weather. Mostly Chironomids, although Muscios and mosquitoes were also seen. These were seen stuck in the tanglefoot traps. Wish we had gotten those out about a week earlier... But this sight is cheap! 1 July Barrow, Alaska Our early to traplines II and VI.
