rolling uplands interrupted by broad,
shallow swales of lush Carex. the
upland vegetation resembles the
ridges around camp - willows, scattered
grass and seage clumps, much
Pedicularus - all in mounds. the
uplands did not support much bird
life - occasional golden plovers and
baird's sanpipers. Semi-pals were
frequent along the banks of
Nunivale Slough and its tributaries.
Each swale supported one and
occasionally two pairs of red-backs.
Found two red-back nests in swales -
4 eggs each. Saw group of 7 black
bream in the slough going out; coming
back saw 3 and killed 2 for
Eona's family.
Heard dents overhead on
two occasions. They may well be
breeding there, however there is
much territory to cover to find a
nest. Also saw a group of 4
Dowitchers - surely ?? completed
somewhere or non-breeders, as there
is no Dowitcher habitat in the
area.
