Maclaurin 1966 worthwhile for collembolans. Wonder if you can culture collembolans.... Wrote notes until lunch. Afterwards drove our to Central Marsh roads with Niko and Tom. Stopped by Pitzelka's Plot and walked across Plot and Holmes' Morass to Elson Lagoon, down lagoon to Wohlslag Slough, and up slough to Beach Ringe. Weather cold and windy, with occasional wet mist. Fair feeding activity, but birds were hard to approach. Watched 3 or 7 pecterals in Morass - very a sign of breeding activity. Turnstone nests 1, 2, +3 all O.k.- found no new nests. Saw copulating pair of golden plovers, and loose group of four of same, all in good plumage. Pair of Baird's along Wohlslag Slough acted like clutch not complete; 1 gave good ground display. After dinner went in to town for Valagatuk. Very enjoyable evening. Arrived home late and tired. 25 June Barrow, Alaska Missed breakfast, but I didn't sleep as late as I would have liked to! Walked our through Drum area
