18 June Meade River Coal Mine, Alaska
Good breakfast, then played with
specimens and notes to get caught
up. Went out to Paul's census
plot to add another row, making it
6 x 6: 80 meter squares. Addition includes
some good wet pans and should be
a help. Walked around and
photographed before coming in for
lunch. After lunch rang up APL on
the radio and had Ben call Max on
the phone to see if we are getting
a plane today. We aren't.
Weather now going bad - wind
blowing a steady 10 mph from the NW,
and temperature and barometer
falling. Hope it doesn't go to pot.
Tried fitfully to sleep a while,
then gave up and went out to collect
feeding observations. Walked around
t large lake basin west of camp and
collected observations on Northern and
Red Phalarope, dowitchers, pectoral,
western, and semi-palmated sandpipers.
Found Paul's ptarmigan nest - now 8 eggs -
and another ptarmigan just west of
his census plot. By this time it was
darn cold! Wind up to 13-15 mph, and
