Birds were seen displaying over there, and perched on ice blocks along river, as well as feeding on bare mud under the willows. ♂ were still defending territories actively - displaying and chasing encroaching birds. Shot 2 ♂ - both seen displaying, but both had well developed brood patches (SM 500, 501). Walked over marsh broken by frequent ponds covering river terrace. Saw 1 ♂ pectoral and 2 ♂ red-backs - not enough Caliornine activity for much study. Collected 3 ♀ and 2 ♂ Red Phalaropes. (Ray's boy lost one of the ♂ while carrying them. Others - SM 496, 497, 498, 499.) Each of the ♀ has a well developed, shelled egg in the oviduct. One looked complete, and ready to lay; others - spotting was underway, with ground cover complete.
