Maclean 1966 two ruptured follicles. Parked the wessel by large exposed area extending from Elson Lagoon ca. 150 m. inland. Great burst of turnstone activity, involving 5 birds flying and making noise at one time, close to Ukpek Slough. Semi-pals were frequent and active - but too busy worrying about sex to feed. Collected 4 of them. Semi-pals, as turnstones, were dumped in South part of exposed area. In North part, closer to Wshlsaq Slough, Red phalaropes predominated - in pairs and groups of up to eight. These were feeding actively. Collected 7 for stomach and gonad analyses. By this time weather was a little brisk, but sunny and pleasant. Finally, regretfully, came in around midnight. 12 June Barrow, Alaska Today the melt began in earnest. Warm, sunny weather - and snow should be going fast. Spent most of the day working on last night's stomachs. Director Brewer came by for a "chat", which dragged out, but was not without benefit. Late in the afternoon walked into
