Little bur snow, in all directions, and
hardly a sound to be heard. that
whole arm of the ridge has hardly
started coming out. Took some pictures,
including a cocoon on the tumora, then
drove over to bluffs by Elsan Lagoon.
My faith was restored. Successive pairs
of settled redbacks, but still scrapping
over boundaries. Activity still
suggestive of early June. Also a pair
of Pectorals, with OT in good voice, and
two white-rumps, probably a pair.
Phalaropes were coming by - mostly
seen in the air. And, a major
event, Niko stumbled upon a turnstone
nest with two eggs. And there was
more: saw a pair of Spectacled
Eiders fly by, pointed East. All in all,
an encouraging afternoon.
Also stopped to check red-fox
den on Beach Ridge, w. of c. + g.s..
Definitely fresh since last year. A
few scats and old ptarmigan feathers
around. Then, as I looked down one
entrance, fox ran out another 10 feet
away and ran ca. 200 m. West down
the ridge before stopping to watch.
