Wessel wouldn't start - wasted
more time getting another, then went out
to Beach Ridge with Niko to begin
recording. Got some data on Bairds (pair-
localized and actively feeding) and
a red back (collected, SU 486). Wind
has increased to a steady 18-20 knots,
but still above freezing. Not too
comfortable. Came in at 6:00 and talked
to Univ. of Hawaii entomologists
until dinner with same and Lewellyne.
After dinner worked over yesterday's
specimens, then went into town. Went
to show with Edna and her mom -
Judgements at Nuremberg - too damn
long - my butt got sore!
7 June
Barrow, Alaska
Cold and windy again. Slow
morning; slow indeed. Worked on specimen
and notes, and prepared equipment for plane
to Meade. After lunch Pitelka and
equipment left for Meade; Niko and
I left for Voth Area. Stopped
by W. bank of Honeybucker Lagoon,
across from FAA. Saw dispersing
flock of ca. 30 redbacks, and collected
feeding observations. Much activity,
but no full display. Continued on to
