7 July
Spent evening processing and putting up
part of day's kill.
Today I fertilize the tundra.
Spent the day on Schultz's fertilizer plot
assisting Steve Holland.
8 July
Barrow, Alaska
Finished off Monday's white-rumps,
then made few quick observations
before lunch. Spent afternoon
leaving Chilo's seminar to S.F. State
students, and assisting in entertainment
of same.
Listened to Bohnzack's Seminar
on milk progress in evening, then
checked white-rump nests. Burst of
hatching has struck - amazing synchrony.
Observed feeing, then returned with Steve.
9 July
Barrow, Alaska
Woke up and found myself fighting
Chilo's colo. Spent morning writing notes
and putting up loan. After lunch, finished
loan, and so to the field. Another white-
rump nest hatching. Colo and foggy -
very little feeding activity. No broods of
clicks seen, although several birds
have alarm displays. A large group of
parasitic jaegers has been passing through
the area - could effect shorebirds
