Machin 1966 checked out the UHER to see about getting some display down on tape. After lunch and a Merle Solomon haircut went out to the tundra. Melt on beach ridge is noticeably advanced. Can you believe working on June 4 with no parka, no jacket, and sleeves rolled up? This is ridiculous - no winds, sunny - I got my face sunburned. Two pairs of red-backs are localized on Bideau Ridge, with some display. Another closer to c+gs was less stable; when flushed, flew 1/4 mile away towards AACS. Longspur display much advanced. Most completing 4 themes per glide; rising to cd. 30-40 ft.. Nothing else new. Drove over to Pitelka's Plot - now has large exposed areas along crest of ridge (west edge of plot). Entire plot maybe 5% exposed. 2 prs. of apparently localized red-backs. Saw one good chase - but birds didn't look like red-backs to me. Maybe Turnstones, but couldn't tell for sure. Drove along east edge of plot, and took a of red-back (alone) freeing off of NE corner of plot.
