Maclean, 1966 Niko did well in his first experience with the weasel - there will be no worries with him, I'm sure. Stopped on Beach Ridge to listen to the magnificent sounds of Calidris alpina. There were at least two males - very active and not yet settled, plus a feeding group of 3. Longspurs were spreading out, but not yet in full song. Rose to ca. 10 ft or less, and completed 1 or 2 songs in glide. Drove across Central Marsh towards Gasoline Ridge and encountered Golden Plover which displayed very well. Obvious "change of gear" in flights as he went into the display. Two other lone Golden Plovers seen - no evidence of pairing. Gasoline Ridge about like Beach Ridge - crater is ca. 30% exposed. Rebucks and Longspurs as Beach Ridge. Tried to meet Pitelka in the evening- Wien didn't make it. Circled overhead in thick fog, then returned to FAI. 4 June Barrow, Alaska Morning - looked around camp area, then harassed are for equipment and our refrigerator. Weather is again beautiful, so
