Niko did well in his first experience with
the weasel - there will be no worries
with him, I'm sure.
Stopped on Beach Ridge to listen
to the magnificent sounds of Calidris
alpina. There were at least two males -
very active and not yet settled, plus
a feeding group of 3. Longspurs were
spreading out, but not yet in full song.
Rose to ca. 10 ft or less, and completed
1 or 2 songs in glide.
Drove across Central Marsh towards
Gasoline Ridge and encountered Golden
Plover which displayed very well.
Obvious "change of gear" in flights as he
went into the display. Two other lone
Golden Plovers seen - no evidence of pairing.
Gasoline Ridge about like Beach Ridge -
crater is ca. 30% exposed. Rebucks and
Longspurs as Beach Ridge.
Tried to meet Pitelka in the evening-
Wien didn't make it. Circled overhead
in thick fog, then returned to FAI.
