Barrow, Alaska
Spent most of the day in Fairbanks,
then arrived at Barrow at 1935 via
Air Alaska (new name - same old
Wien). Tundra from Brooks Range
on was 95% snow covered. Standing
water in rivers, but they did not appear
to be running. Snow looked wet - as if
it was about freezing down below. I
think we are arriving in plenty of time.
Barrow weather was beautiful -
clear, ca. 33°, little wind. Melt around
town appears about normal.
Saw a few people at the air port,
then went into camp and visited there
for the rest of the evening.
2 June
Barrow, Alaska
Weather still good. Started arranging
the lab and checking our equipment,
then put up a pair of birds (Robin and
warbler) from POW-1. I guess I'll
remember how to do it.
Took a weasel out to beach
ridge and Pitelka's Plot. Even the
highest part of the ridge is but 25%
exposed; P's plot is 95% covered.
Only a few longspurs - more of them
than I've seen. Those I've seen were
