Journal
of harling, new white-rump nest.
Evening - checked gasoline ridge and
vicinity. Little activity.
4 July
Skeletonized 3 beasts, cleaned snowy-
out skull, then spent rest of day in
fields. Checked W. Beach Ridge, then
Central Marsh. Collected 2 king Eisers
and long-tailed jaeger.
Spent evening in Barrow Village
at annual 4th of July celebration.
5 July
Struggled out of bed at an hour
which will not be mentioned, and spent
remainder of day struggling. Put up
yesterday's kill. Preserved grey-cheeked
thrush brought in by Bohnsack.
After dinner (have to admit it) went to
movie - Stevens Prince. Don't regret it.
6 July
Got an early start - amazing - and
observed feeding birds on Beach Ridge N. of
Micro Met, and area N. of ridge. Found five
white-rump nest hatcheons, and flock of 18
white-rumps. Took chick and 5 adults from
flock (Pitelka and Holmes will be proud!).
Spent afternoon working west from there.
Checked Pitelka's Plot - found 6 Buff-
Breasts. Took two (ibis). Also took Baird
Samo pipe chick several days old (Maclcan-
261). Weather cool and foggy.
