Maclean 1964 Journal 10 polygonal area around gasoline. little activity. Cold!! Evening - processed beasts and wrote notes. 25 June Barrow, Alaska Took off early bound for the vast uncharted interior. Spent the day on and around Holmes' plot at Hkravik. Saw 3 knots on foot print lake. Collected 1 (Maclean 239). Plot is on upland, well drained tundra - noticeably different from immediate coastal region. Vegetation- more Poa arctica, Cassiope tetragona- more spp. of Salix. Saw arctic fox, c. 8-10 snowy owls, at least 2 nesting groups of Jaegers, many Buff Breasts, Ptarmigans, and Redbacks. No Bairs's; feW white-rumps; 1 semi-pal. Enjoyed getting away from noise and bustle, and breath of Barrow area. Collected knot, tern, 5 buff-breasts, white-rump; not bad. Returned around dinner time. Ate, caught a quick sleep, then put up glaucous gull found dead on tundra. 26 June Barrow, Alaska A.M. - Put up terns and knot while trying to see Bowers. Wrote field notes, at lunch, and spent afternoon seeking
