MacLean 1965 Journal first flying immature owl, this from our earliest nest. Birds have moved over to high polygon area W. of N. Meadow Lake. Both adults and two non-flying immatures also seen in area. Non-fliers were ca. 50 m. apart, and 100 m. from spot where flier was first seen. Continued on, paralleling gas-line, Bows very little. Two redbacks by W. end of gas-line rings, ca. 150 m. apart. No evidence of chicks nearby or association between birds. Probably non or unsuccessful breeders. Saw small (6-8 birds) very active group of smallish peeps in high polygons by S. Meadow Lake - could not get close enough to identify. And that was the extent of the shorebird activity. Returned around mid-night. At DACs saw 3 juvenile red-foxes playing on road. Approached to 50 ft. before they ran into Drum area. Followed ore for 10 minutes. Fox would run ca. 100 m., then stop to look back for 10-15 sec, then run some more. Continued this until out of sight.
