Naela 1965 Journal 29 July One lemming seal in II + III. Saw few red-backs near lines. Jaegers at end of VI actively defending chick. Drove on to Fertilizer plot, and lo - there in line XIII - a juvenile red-backed sandpiper. Heard adult giving alarm call beyond 10.0 end of line. Walked around area observing red-backs - feeding in wet-stuff, i.e., black- topped pannes, then came in. Barrow, Alaska 30 July Rain! Wrote notes while Paul packed up for departure. After dinner went out to duck camp, and then bird watching along shore of Elson Lagoon. Alternated between ducks and shorebirds - not too very many of either. Flocks of Longspurs very much increased. The swan influx seems very general - not localizes. Loose groups of 3 or 4 to 12 Swans evenly over tundra. Tundra is now very green and lush looking. No Eriophorum moss have appeared, possibly as a result of lemmings. 1 August Barrow, Alaska Went out to (+) S. with Hamilton to change records, then went on to Fertilizer Plot to bring in lines XIII and XIV. No beasts there. Weather bad and getting worse. Looked around there,
