Maclean 1965 Journal took 1 from each of the nests south of Gasline. Enough, Enough! Aside from a few phalaropes, nothing in the way of shorebirds the whole darn day! Frustrating. 28 July Barrow Alaska Our to C.G.S., then walked down Ditella's Plot in cold, miserable weather. Saw flock of golden plovers - feeding in wet tundra near drying pans. Black-topped ponds became evident part of tundra for first time. Checks here for holes - present in about 1/4 ponds, and not yet in great numbers. Citer larval not here in size and/or numbers yet or surface active adult insects are preferred. Tried a few Holmes surface observations without seeing any surface insects - but day not too good for them. Saw few flocking non-breeding red-backs, also on Ditella's Plot. Evening - clearing up, so went out to Duke Camp. Most people were out. Watched ducks and Murres, then went out hunting at midnight, Stayed until 4:00 A.M., - collected 50 candidates for the stew pot.
