Traplines took entire afternoon.
Went out to Voth area in evening
to check nests. Found all eggs in nests
to our including Cake-eater. At cake-eater
watch Baird giving alarm call, then
Gave up and shifted to red-backed. What-
lo! a nest, with..... 3 chicks and 1
pipped egg. That most joyous day of all
summers has arrived. Checked another
red-back nest on the way in, and found
that it, too, is hatching. Once again,
The redbacks reassert their position as
early nesters.
Left Hamilton and DeBenedictis at
ice pile-up to watch for Aleuts + Eiass,
and walked in to write notes.

Barrow, Alaska
Out to the tundra with F. W. Prescott-
claims acquaintance with Pitelka + connection
with Ecological Society of America, although
not a professional type. Not a bag of
coot. More lousy weather - too bad. Took
movies of Hamilton being dive bombed by
jaegers, Hen eggs, lemmings, and Snowy-owl
dicks. Continues on to Footprint Lake
and collected few pre-migratory pectorals.
