plan to Wohleslag Slough, E until stopped by
creek, then back West and around area
between ridge and Elson Lagoon. Found
large congregation of shorebirds - S.P., W.E.,

polygonal, mesic, and wet-warm-pano
habitats.
Evening - continues reading in literature.
21 June
Barrow, Alaska
Woke up feeling like South end of
a Death-borne caribou! Managed to
survive through lunch writing notes, then
spent afternoon in field testing further
refinement of sampling technique, including
use of spotting scope. Birds most
unco-operative - refuses to feed.
Looked in polygonal area E. of Pow
Site. Moderate activity, but little
fessing. After dinner went up to Beach
Ridge with Holmes to spot White-
Crowned nests and check Buff-Breast,
then returned, wrote notes, and go to bed.
