4 July

Our at noon, leases in general
direction of Holmes' Morass. AACS golden
plovers are gone. Some pectorals are
still here - ca. '1/2 of original group - and
those remaining are undoubtedly non-breeders.
Several classes seen, but no "booming" and
no ground displays. My high hopes
for these birds were not borne out.
Walked down "On-the-Beach Ridge";
again failed to locate red-back nest. Did
find semi-pal and red-back nests just
W. of C+G.S.- 4 eggs each. Also found
golden plover nest by NE corner of
Pitelka's Plot - 4 eggs. Ridge and
Morass very quiet. Birds seen were
doing more standing around than
feeding. Returned by way of Central
Marsh. It is full of phalaropes of
both sexes. Apparently there will be
much non-breeding in phalaropes.
Scattered pectorals also appears to be
non-breeders.
