25 June
Barrow, Alaska
Has to play tour guide during
the afternoon, so waited until evening
to look for micro-met area. Finally
got a good warm day with little
wind - very pleasant to work in. For
the first time it is possible to walk
the length of Beach Ridge from
micro-met to C&AS without stepping on
snow (except for man-made ditches).
Birds were acting most un- 25 June-ish.
Hears good display of C. alpina, melanost,
bairdi, pusillus, fusci collis, plus
Pluvialis and longspurs. A pectoral
near AACS gave good courtship chase
and display, then drove away
displaying red-back and white-rump.
Also saw courtship chase in semipal
and red-back. Saw a total of 6
displaying pectorals - most seen to
date. PP are still rarely seen. Phalaropes
are still increasing and acting perfectly
10th of June - paired in social flocks,
with occasional competition over P.
Walked up to South North end of
Pikelka's Flot to look for Curlew
Zanopipe - no luck. Finally walked
back down the Ridge and in.
