Barrow, Alaska
Clear, warm day. Spent the A.M. getting caught up on field notes and letters, then decided to take some slides. Spent all afternoon taking magnificent pictures, then discovered Q.D. camera wasn't working. Took another look at good Buff Breast display and Northern Phalarope.
In the evening put up Pectoral Sandpiper and observed technique for stomach analysis on several Pectorals and White Rumps. Fog rolled in as we were working. Looks like it plans to stick around.
17 June
Barrow, Alaska
Worked on Calidris feeding activity. A.M. worked through drum area and along beach ridge in dense fog. Afternoon—followed beach ridge around bero. Very quiet. Thick fog and cold wind off of ice maybe to blame.
Saw Snowy Owl flying over central marsh—first of season.
Evening—processed day's Lemming kill, then went out and depleted local snow bunting supply by 2. Put these up, then quit for night.
