16 June
Barrow, Alaska
Got stuck with BuDocks people all day,
and didn't get out to tundra until evening.
Weather still lousy - ca. 28° and blowing.
June 16 and the tundra is still 85% snow
covered. New and drifting snow continues to
cover previously exposed areas making them
unavailable to birds and lemmings. Founs
absolutely O along Beach Ridge and Holmes'
Morass, then found pockets of activity between
Brant Pt. and Wollslag Slough. Took feeding
observations on flock of ca. 40 redbacks, plus
turnstones, whitetump, pectoral, semi-pal, and
golden plover. System seems to be working -
major obstacle is getting observer off his tail-end
and into the fields.

Spent day finishing off with BuDocks
people, then writing notes. In the evening
went to movie. Should have gone to the fields.
Then, on to field notes for several hours, transcribing
previous shorebird observations to new system.
I wonder if it is ever possible to write enough
and keep caught up...
