Maclean 1965 Journal 16 June Barrow, Alaska Got stuck with BuDocks people all day, and didn't get out to tundra until evening. Weather still lousy - ca. 28° and blowing. June 16 and the tundra is still 85% snow covered. New and drifting snow continues to cover previously exposed areas making them unavailable to birds and lemmings. Founs absolutely O along Beach Ridge and Holmes' Morass, then found pockets of activity between Brant Pt. and Wollslag Slough. Took feeding observations on flock of ca. 40 redbacks, plus turnstones, whitetump, pectoral, semi-pal, and golden plover. System seems to be working - major obstacle is getting observer off his tail-end and into the fields. 17 June Barrow, Alaska Spent day finishing off with BuDocks people, then writing notes. In the evening went to movie. Should have gone to the fields. Then, on to field notes for several hours, transcribing previous shorebird observations to new system. I wonder if it is ever possible to write enough and keep caught up... 18 June Barrow, Alaska After morning in the office went out and worked Holmes' Morass for shorebird feeding observations.
