Maclear 1965 Journal Ran first transects of traplines 1 + 2. Easy; results - nothing! Lemmings abundantly seen; saw 12 in one bare patch ca. 20 ft. diameter in 1 min.. Checked owl nests. Nest with three eggs May 30 and 5 June now has 7! Apparently she resumed laying after taking a few days off. Shorda produces interesting hatching results. In the evening went out with Hamilton to Drum Area to look at questionable peeps. Found it. Very little coloration on front of breast. Looks like possible rufous-necked. Collected it. It wasn't! Turns out to be sanderling - immediately obvious when in hands. Oh well. After Pitelka and DeBenedictis returned from Geminus!, went over shorebird notation system. At their insistence added categories for forbs and heights of dead vegetation, modified others. I disagree (and still do), believing they are adding non- functional categories that only confuse matters by increasing amount which must be recorded and analyzed. Anyway, system is now as follows: Record date, observation number Choirs observed, numbers consecutively
