Sough again. Snow is continuing to melt, although it was cold and winy.
Saw group of 50+ jaegers sitting on snow around SE corner of Central Marsh. Other
jaegers still on Wohlslag Sough.
Terrestrial seabirds around CREEK
wanigan - chasing, w/ several aerial
displays. Again encountered flock of
seabirds close to lagoon. Collected
feeding observations on these using 30 sec.
method. Found it much more satisfactory-
easier and more accurate. 1 Buff-Breast,
1 Saundersi, 5+6 pectoral near
mouth of Sough. Collected feeding
observations on all.
Concentrated on field notes in evening,
plus usual discussion concerning shore-bird
methodology.
15 June
Barrow, Alaska
Weather really lousy - cold, w/
wind blowing like h---! Prepared for
stomach preservation and removed stomachs
from 5 doors, then went out to Gasline
Ridge. New and/or blown snow has
covered virtually all previously exposed
humus on windward side of mounds
and ridges. We're losing ground on
this darn snow!
