Started walking. Not too cold - ca. 35° -
but about 10 mph wind from East.
Through Drum area - saw sandling, few
baird's, semi-pale and red-backs in
moderate numbers. Semi-pale and red-backs
displaying. Saw 7 gull at preferred on W. end
of [illegible] Ridge. Walked to Beach Ridge,
Through Volk Area, and down Gasline Ridge -
saw only occasional red-backs. These seen
were setting up territories - aerial displays
and egg chases frequently seen. At upper
Wohlslag Slough encountered loose flock of
red-backs plus 1 red phalarope OT.
Took feeding data of golden plovers,
red-backs, and phalarope. Found 5 second
observations extremely difficult to use with
any accuracy. Birds were remaining in same
feeding habitat; that successive 5 second
observations were same as initial observation.
This consistency should allow longer
observation periods without endangering
accuracy. Big problem in observation is
nowhere but how birds feed.
Saw even more lemmings today. Seen
to be exposing themselves for longer periods
of time. Could often hear lemming noise
coming from near snow patches.
Walked back across Central Marsh
